Welcome to the Moscow of South America!

Ok, this is the first entry in my Argentinan blog so I´ll get down to the nitty gritty. The title of the blog is Puerto Rican slang for "pimp as balls" or "pimp with balls", at least I think it is. Not quite sure because I didn´t run it by Lisa first, but anyway the point is I have grand aspirations for this trip and this blog. I could have chosen imontheothersideoftheworldbabywhoo-hoo.blogspot.com or herassislikeanargentinianpesoVOLATILE.blogspot.com (Munia´s favorite), but I opted for the higher road. Before you ask, dontcryformeargentina was already taken.

Anyway, I´m taking Spanish classes for six hours a day which is pretty taxing, but enjoyable. I´m staying with an extremely sweet 70 year old lady who is shaped kind of like a box. She makes me and Lisa dinner every night, worries about me when I don´t eat enough, and has opinions about everything under the sun. She lives with her dog Oreo with whom she has a love-hate relationship. She teaches me bad words from time to time and is prone to say things like,¨In general I´m very polite, but when they (the travel agency) fuck with me..." She´s a cool grandma.

So all this talk about BA being the "Paris of South America" is kind of hilarious. With the pale light of winter, the graffitied streets, and broken sidewalks it looks more like Moscow. Most of Buenos Aires looks like I found it in my attic. Many of the buildings are dusty, dingy and in need of renovation. It has great potential, but I haven´t seen anything "shiny" or "sparkling" yet. Still, the city has it´s charm and I have by no means scratched the surface of what´s here. Look forward to seeing what´s going on!

Ok, gotta go makes plans for my Uruguay trip this weekend. Peace.
